A Shepherd’s Reflection: Father Campbell at the Easter Compassion: From Isolation to Inclusion at the Weija Leprosarium
“In over 25 years of living and serving at the Weija Leprosarium, I have witnessed pain, rejection, silence, and yes, even miracles. But never have I experienced a day quite like this.”
On Easter Saturday, April 19, 2025, the walls of the Weija Leprosarium did not echo with the usual stillness; they burst into song, laughter, and the beautiful sound of human connection. For me, Rev. Father Andrew Nii Lante Campbell, this was not just an Easter celebration. It was a resurrection of hope for a community that the world too often forgets.
Organized by MyHelp-YourHelp Foundation in collaboration with PayAngel, the “Easter Compassion: From Isolation to Inclusion” event brought not only donations but dignity, wrapped in music, prayer, play, and presence. I saw cured lepers who have lived decades in society’s blind spot dancing with joy. I saw children rescued from the streets being embraced, not as cases to be handled, but as souls to be loved.
Over the years, we’ve received support from kind hearts. But I say this with a full and grateful heart:
“In all my years at the leprosarium, I have never seen a donation so grand, so rich in love, so overflowing with joy—not from any NGO, group, or individual. This was not charity. This was family.”
The Foundation brought gifts worth over GHS 70,000, including food, clothes, essential medicines, books, and GHS 10,000 in cash. These items were a blessing, yes. But they were also a message, one that said: “You are not forgotten. You are not untouchable. You are deeply, humanly, loved.”
The reality is still difficult. Despite being cured, many residents continue to face dehumanizing discrimination, especially in hospitals. Some doctors and nurses still hesitate to touch them, not because of medical facts, but because of fear. That rejection cuts deep; it says you are less. But on that Easter Saturday, MyHelp-YourHelp Foundation said the opposite: you are more, more than your past, more than a disease, more than the silence the world has placed around you.

To the Foundation, your impact cannot be measured in money or goods; it is etched in hearts. You have rewritten the narrative from isolation to inclusion, from silence to song.
“This was more than a project. It was a sacred offering. And I will forever be full of praise for MyHelp-YourHelp Foundation for choosing to walk with us into our suffering, into our story, and our joy.”
In faith and gratitude,
