A Headmaster’s Hope: Mr. Justice Ninson Reflects on the Restoration of Asafo AEDA ‘B’ Basic School

“The first day I walked into this school, I cried. The despair was overwhelming. But today—standing in front of this newly transformed building—I cried again. Only this time, they were tears of joy.”

For over three decades, Asafo AEDA ‘B’ Basic School stood as a silent witness to neglect. Walls that once symbolized opportunity crumbled with time. Our classrooms echoed not with laughter and learning, but with the silent resignation of pupils and teachers doing their best with so little.

As the headmaster, I carried the burden of this reality each day. I saw children learning without desks, teachers improvising lessons with broken boards, and our pupils walking long distances just to fetch water from unsafe sources. I often asked myself if help would ever come.

Then, in April 2023, help didn’t just come; it arrived as a transformation.

Thanks to the MyHelp-YourHelp Foundation and the tireless efforts of Mr. Isaac Kojo Nti, a proud son of Asafo and HR Manager at JODI Constructions, the story of our school has been rewritten. What began as a heartfelt promise during a 2022 visit became a full-scale renovation, guided by compassion, fueled by unity, and delivered with excellence.

“In all my years in education, I have never seen a gesture so timely, so complete, and so filled with purpose. This was not a donation; it was a restoration of dignity.”

The project gave us:

And a reason to believe again

  • A fully refurbished six-unit classroom block
  • Safe access to clean water for the first time in the school’s history
  • Whiteboards, markers, and proper classroom demarcation

Enrollment has already climbed from 328 to 350 pupils, and our 16 teachers now step into class with pride, not frustration. The impact is visible—not just in new paint or water tanks, but in the renewed confidence in our learners’ eyes.

You could feel the renewed life during the commissioning; our community rejoiced with cultural displays, cadet drills, poems, and music. It was not just a ceremony; it was a celebration of hope reclaimed.

“This was more than a renovation. It was a rebirth. And I will forever be full of gratitude to MyHelp-YourHelp Foundation for turning our forgotten school into a symbol of pride.”

Something struck me, and I couldn’t help but get this pupil interviewed:

“We used to share noisy classrooms and walk 45 minutes to fetch water. Now, I come to school excited. I believe I will pass my exams with flying colors!”

My name is Vera Asante, and I’m a JHS 2 student at Asafo AEDA ‘B’ Basic School. Before this renovation, learning was hard. We sat in crowded rooms. The blackboards were worn out. Sometimes, rain leaked through the roof, and we had to stop class. We had to leave school just to find water. Sometimes we didn’t come back.

“This is the first time I feel like my future is possible.”

Thank you to the people who did this. You didn’t just fix our school—you made us believe we are worth it.

With heartfelt appreciation,
Mr. Justice Ninson(Headmaster) & Vera Asante (Student),
Asafo AEDA ‘B’ Basic School
